Our new favorite game here at Fly Away is the old party game “Two Truths and a Lie” but we play the travel edition! Tonight’s game is all about one of my very favorite places in the world, French Polynesia. I’ll be giving the team three statements and they have to try to figure out which one is the lie. Trust me, it’s fun!

When she first set sail in 2006 with 1,963 staterooms and room for 4,635 guests Freedom of the Seas was the largest ship in the world. Recently several members of our Outlander team had the opportunity to experience this ship fresh from her recent amplification as she became the first Royal Caribbean ship to sail from a US port post-COVID.

We have been a busy traveling group lately! Recently Lindsay and Sandy were sailing on the Holland America Line Nieuw Amsterdam in the Caribbean and we’d love to hear their thoughts on how Holland is handling the return to cruising.

The ceremony involved with naming a ship is as old as… well, since humans first built a ship! Every culture has its version of the ceremony, some elaborate and some simple. Many are based in religion of some sort, asking the powers that be to keep a vessel safe throughout her time on the waters. We all have seen somewhere some well-dressed person or persons smashing a bottle against the hull of a ship. But what is it like to attend a ceremony like this? What really happens?
Recently, Elizabeth was invited to the naming ceremony for the new Celebrity Apex, and before that, she also got to experience the ceremony for the Symphony of the Seas, and she and I experienced the naming of the Norwegian Encore. So now with a few of these events under her belt, we thought we would find out what she observed and experienced!

In high school, most of us were introduced to Bram Stoker’s Dracula or we were exposed to the seductive villain through the plethora of vampire movies from as far back as 1931. Dracula has become a part of our Halloween traditions and part of our ethos. Donna & Lindsay went to Romania over Halloween to check out the country and see if they could meet the immortal legend.

As many of our listeners have already heard, we love Alaska here at Outlander Travel. We keep coming back to this amazing place because of it’s grandeur, wildness and beauty. We invited a special guest here tonight from Visit Anchorage to share with us why Anchorage has so much to offer.
Dawn Campbell is a lifelong Alaskan, born and raised in the community of Eagle River just 15-miles north of Anchorage, she knows Anchorage and Southcentral Alaska like the back of her own hand! Brought up to appreciate and respect the outdoors…that is typically where you will find her when she is not on the road training travel professionals about what to see and do in Alaska. She is also an accomplished musician and has been playing String Bass professionally with the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra for the past 29-years. Dawn can tell fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, skiing, boating, kayaking, snow machining, and travel stories from throughout the great state of Alaska, it truly is her passion to share her infectious love of the 49th State. She and her husband are now empty nesters with three grown-up daughters (no grandchildren just yet!) and plenty of time to get out and enjoy life. Dawn certainly made the most of her 6-months off work during the COVID pandemic, she learned to fly, earned her Private Pilot Certificate (aka license), and purchased her very own Cessna 172 airplane!

It’s finally here! We’ve been waiting with anticipation for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World, and as of Oct 1st, it’s finally here. Of course, there were some of us who couldn’t stay away for that weekend. Lindsay and Sandy spent the anniversary weekend there trying to soak in all of the festivities, and they are excited to tell us all about it.
